Haptic NOH Trainer

In Laval Virtual2006 demonstration, we will teach how to move the body by an immersive projection display and the haptic interface using gyroscopic force. At first, video avatar and target zone are made from the image in the trainer's movement. Video avatar is projected to the screen. The user copies the image and move the body. It leads in a correct direction with the device when coming off from target zone. Polhemus is used for a positional measurement.

The object with moment of inertia I rotates at the angular velocity , and if the axis is rotated at the angular velocity , the moment of M=~I is generated. This is called a gyroscopic moment. This haptic interface uses the gyroscopic moment. This device consists of a flywheel and gimbals. It can output in arbitrary directional force by inclining the rotating flywheel with gimbals.

Even though the gyroscopic haptic interface is not grounding, it can generate a reaction force. It can cover large working volume. Moreover, there is no trouble of the installation and smaller than past non-granding types haptic interface. In addition, information was presented in the view by combining this device with the immersive projection display.

How to move the body can be effectively presented by using this device. Movement is comprehensible in the immersive projection display of the life-size.Acquisition is early because it is taught with haptic interface intuitively.It is effective as the instruction system that passes on the tradition culture of how to move the body of the Karate etc. to future generations.
